MG ZR Ignition Blue 1.4 (Project)

So i bought myself a MG ZR 1.4 for £300, its basically a project to start using as my daily driver.
Though as it was only £300 its had a pretty though life so here is a couple of pics when i got
it back into the workshop

hopefully you can see the rattle can sprayed front bumper...... too many ed chinas out there.

So the first job on the list is to strip of all the badly done previous jobs. First starting with
this set of terrible looking "M3" wing mirrors.

I know everyone is different but i hate parcel shelf speakers so ill need a new one.

Here is a quick picture of the alloys I am going to get these shot blasted and powder coated
at some stage during the build.

I didnt actually notice how bad the bonnet was when i first bought the car but on closer inspection
in the workshop i noticed massive dents all across it (yet another thing for the list)

its not terrible for £300,enough to be getting on with though (please tell me the rear lights aren't staying )

So i got it on the ramp and made a list of everything that is needed for the car and as
you can expect its a long one haha......

The back lights have to go...... can stand them when i stripped all the carpet and trim
out of the rear of the car i found a nice nasty surprise of home wiring. GREAT

just out of interest i gave the back of the car a cut and polish to bring up the paint work.
i think its worked wonders like especially now those terrible lights are gone.

I stripped of the door cards when i was taking off the m3 wing mirrors and found this wiring connector.

Maybe someone can clarify but i assume that this means i can connect electric wing mirrors in and
replace the manual ones that where in it previously. I Also found a pin connector behind the blanking
plate on the dash where the electric wing mirror switch would be.

So last pic of the bumper on before it goes.....

So with the front end off i can get a better look at this rotting cross member which
is being held together with wood screws and filler... not great but fixable.

so all there is to do is cut it off and weld on a new one. I drained the coolant pulled out the old
radiator and cut off the old cross member.
I got a second had one of my mates old mg shell lying out in his yard.
So heres the new cross member.

so after welding the new cross member on i have give it a quick coat of paint

and yes that is a picture of kitchen sealant holding the interior door handles together.....

looks a million times better already , omg at that cross member , when i took my bumper off mine was mint , think i will get it waxoiled if thats how bad they can go

yea it was really bad like but its more than likely been in an accident and then not repaired correctly.

so some new parts!! new front bumper, bonnet and parcel shelf

got the new radiator fitted and coolant bottle cleaned out and put fresh new coolant in.

also here is a quick look at the engine as it stands now (got rid off that stupid halfords induction)
the standard air box has been put in. I will detail the engine bay at the end of the build.

so i decided to give the bonnet a compound and polish before it went on and it came up brilliant.

Got the alloys back from the powder coater today very happy with the job they done.
