Servicing Intervals and Information (including timing belt intervals)

How often should you change your oil?

Every 10k to 15k (however even if this isn't reached your oil should always be changed yearly!). Ideally every 6 months though for prolonged engine life.

What parts to I need to perform an oil change?

10W40 Oil (a good brand such as Millers, Castrol, Shell etc)

    Oil filter

    Sump plug washer

When should I change my timing belt?

105 - 90,000 or 6 years whichever is the sooner.

VVC - 60,000 miles or 4 years ago whichever is the sooner.

All 105 / 120 should be fitted with an Auto tensioner, 160 has a manual tensioner.

    * many people decide to replace there water pump at timing belts changes too.

When should I change my spark plugs and what type do I need?

A lot of enthusiasts change there plugs every 12 months. Although depending on carbon build up on the plugs you may want to do this sooner or later.

NGK Platinum are a common choice for MG ZR owners.

What about power steering belts and alternator belts?

Most people change these at timing belt intervals, however checking the condition of the belt every now and then will determine if it needs to be done sooner or later. If your belts are squeaking then it is time to change!

    Air Filters

Standard filters should be changed at every oil service.

    Pollen (cabin) Filters

Most people do not change these but filtering clean air into your cabin is never a bad idea, this filter is changed upon inspection.
