HOW TO: Door shedder/damp proof membrane replacement

Just thought i'd put this together as might help people out.

I'm in the process of tidying up my express and fixing a few things. Doing so seems to unearth more niggley little things.

I've discovered a very wet drivers side foot well. 2 reasons that I think this has happened are a missing grommet in the bulk head where someone previous to me had fed a boost gauge vacume tube and also the total lack of a shedder/weather proof membrane on the door.

So..... Here's what I've done to rectify the door problem

    Tools required:
    Scissors
    Craft/modelling knife
    B&Q polythene sheet
Tape to hold things in place
    All weather sealant

Firstly seal all the holes individually using the sealant and polythene sheeting.

I found it best to run a bead of sealant around the hole, apply a piece of sheet roughly the correct size and then trim with a craft knife to tidy up.

As the polythene I bought isn't as thick as the OE shedder material I then put a second sheet on top similar to the OE one.

Obviously next would be to cut holes for the speaker and handle etc.

Fingers crossed this will do the job nicely.

Hope this helps some of you out. Many people don't realise the importance of keeping the shedder in place.

May have a look into - Could be related to the passenger rear foot well becoming damp

Regardless of whether this is the issue, great guide

    Just a quick update:

The sealant I used never set very well and the adhesive qualities weren't as good as hoped.

After doing some more research I found that butyl mastic sealant was required. This proved hard to source but I did find some mastic that is used for caravan windows and sky lights. There's one called w4 sealing tape but I bought a big roll of generic stuff for £8.50

So far this has Worked perfectly.
